-Warriors premises-

Ako Castle Town in Asano Period(volume two of "Ako-Shishi")

 As you understand on the above map , most warriors lived in
warries premises from the north to west of Ako castle.Warries
premises protected Ako castle .The warriors premises is present
Kamikariya area.

Temples and a row ofhouses along
the neighborhood of temple town

 People other than warriors lived in the outside warries premises.
This area is called Kariya now . If you see the map, you can find
that many temples are built here .
 Those temples would become bases which was called Pemaru to
protect. Ako castle if the enemy attacked.
 For this reason , you can find that the temples are built along
the important road and around the part of the Kumami river(presant
the Kariya river .
 The gate which was called Sohmon was made on the road which
was equal to a gateway of town's west and east and it strengthened
Ako castle's defense.
 Moreover , the road which headed towards the castle was made
to cross in the shape of a letter T, turn in the shape of a key and
be a dead end. This is also an idea that the enemy could not see
through the distance or go straight.

 Ninteen of kido , a Tsijibansho and eight of Jishinbansho (bansho
was like a watchhouse)was set up in these road to protect the peace
of town.

 Making a castle town was considersd from varoous angles,for  
example , warriors premises was plased in the important place of
town house. Ako town changed largery, however, we can image
the state of the castle town of those days from the trace of warriors
houses,inKamikariya and the neighboring streets and houses.

The Dairenji Temple

 The castle town also tidied up its from at the time that the Kariya
oldcastle was built as the oldest temple in Kariya to suppress the
west around the castle in those days.
 There is Kaijuinden's tomb ,who was Nagatomo Asano's wife in
this temple.
 Who Ako castle was opend , retainers including Yoshio Ohishi
bought and gave a rice field (about 46 acre )for Kaijinden to hold
a memorial service. These is a stone lantern which was given by
Yoshio Ohishi in the precincts.
 When Kinkoku Yokoi who was a priest stayed in this temple,he
drew Honen Jonin Eden , which is a picture scroll about Honen
who was a priest ,and this picture scroll is preserved as a temple
treasure.

Manpukuji Temple

 Manpukuji Temple was built in Aga,Himeji,Hyougo,first. Second,
it was moved from Aga to Nabaohshima,Aioi. Sango is the Ohshima
Mountain. It was built and arranged in the form of being able to
control in the west of castle with Dailenji Temple. There are many
books into the temple written by Gishi,Yahee Horibe,Kazuemon
Fuwa,Emoshichi Yatoh,Hee Hazamaki,Gengo Ohtaka. On Genroku
15 (1702),June was given 30ryou by Yoshio Ohishi.

Koukouji Temple

 Koukouji Temple located in the west of Kagakuji Temple was
build for the purpose of being able to control against the Bizen
Highway. First,it was called Myoutenji Temple. But it was changed
Koukouji Temple with using name of Mrs.Koukouin,because it
embraced Mrs.Koukouin,Mr.Asano's wife. There are Mrs.Koukouin's
and Okaemon Kimura's parents' and Yasoemon Okajima's wife's
tombs in the precincts of the temple. Yoshio Ohishi surrendered
the Akoh castle to the enemy and he gave the temple five rolls
and two ridges and nine steps of firms (about 52a) as charges to
manage the Mrs.Koukouin's tomb,using much money gathered from
retainers. There are the picture of Daikokuten drawn by Yoshio
Ohishi and the copy of a sutra of Hokekyo 8 vol written by
Souemon Hara and the picture of Buddha given by the Asanos into
the temple as temple treasures.

Zuiohji Temple

 The back of Zuiohji Temple was a port of a castle called "
Funairi" facing the Kumami River (now the Kariya River).
The Takase Ship was going in and out the port. A temple of a castle
played a role of a base in an emergency. And Zuiohji Temple played
a roleof a naval guardroom with Enrinji Temple.
Bankei received the teachings of Unbo who was the chief priest of a
temple ,and became a priest in the temple.  
 There are a blood relation's of Gishi and Genpachi Kondoh's tombs
in a grave yard of the temple.

Enrinji Temple
 Enrinji Temple is located in the west of Zuiohji Temple. The temple
played a role of a naval guardroom with Zuiohji Temple in an emer-
gency.
 The temple was given rice 35koku as the place for the Asanos
to pray. When the Akoh castle was surrendered ,from Genroku 14
April 15 to the last day of May,Yoshio Ohishi did office work of winding
up the affairs into the temple.
 The temple is known to everyone as the place where Yoshio Ohishi
asked Keishouin,General Tunayoshi's mother,through the help of Yuukai
who was the chief priest of a temple,to revive the Asanos.
 Now,the temple goes to ruin and the main temple was moved to
Koutakuji Temple located in Misaki.

Eiouji Temple

 As one of the Harima Rokuboh,it is a temple which of the Nishi-
Honganji Temple group of a true-born Akoh is built in Akoh-Nakamura
and it is the temple of origin Jyohdoshinsyu in Harima.
 The age of the Asanos,it was received 5koku-4to-4syo of rice. It is
one of the temple in connection with the Asanos.
 In the temple,the bell of a temple that it was in Asano-Han residence
of the inner citadel of the Akoh Castle is preserved,and also a lot of
relic of the Gishi is remained.

 In the graveyard,there is Yuuyoh Fujie's grave which is a writer of an
inscription of "Tyugizuka & quot;of the Kagakuji Temple and is an
editor of "Akohgunshi".

Folklore Data Museum in the museum

 We walk about 400 meters to the west from a trace of the Akoh Castle
Shioya gate,and there is the Folklore data museum of appearance is
filled with the retrospective sensation.
 This building was built as building of a government office of the salt
office on Meiji 41 (1908),as the salt monopoly law was performed,when
what make salt prospered. This unique building of putting various roofs
style together skillfully is designated cultural properties of Hyogo
Prefecture, as building of precious in the age of Meiji.
 In Folklore data museum,various folklore data of more than 4000 a tool
of theirs daily farm implement a work of arts and crafts,and so on were
used in Akoh are kept and exhibited.
