Historical Spots in Ako（10）Ako old-water service
By the delta that is composed of the soil and sand carried by ChikusaRiver,Ako city had a low sea level,the people could not drink the well water because the sea water sprang up there, there was little rainfall,and the people had trouble with the drinking water. According to "Ako counntry Journal",the origin of Ako old- water service said"The water service begins from Mt.Ikeda. Hanzaemon Tarumi dug the hole through Mt.Negi. The length of the hole was 52ken,and the height of Mt.Negi was 21ken. The construction began in the 19th year of Keikyo,and ended in the 2nd year of Genna,Tatsudoshi. It took a year to finish the construction. And he led the water of Syuse-River to Kariya. About 370 years ago,he dug a 104meter-iong tunnel through Mt.Negi in Takao,the point of about 7000meter up the Chikusa River,took the water of the river,and led it to the city of Kariya through Mesaka,Kizu,and the foot of Mt.Otaka,Mt.Yamasaki.
